In the world of Instagram, Marrakech reigns supreme. However, we urge you not to let your time in this vibrant city be solely defined by staying at ‘that riad with the pool’, visiting ‘that spa’, or drinking at ‘that café’. While these popular spots have their charm, don’t confine your experience to the well-trodden paths of your favorite influencers.
That said, there’s one exception we’d love for you to make: the magnificent Ben Youssef Madrasa. This beautifully preserved 14th-century former Islamic school is a stunning example of Moroccan design and architecture. Take your time to wander through its serene courtyard, admire the intricate tile work, and, if you arrive early enough, soak in the peaceful silence.
Be sure to venture upstairs to peek into the small rooms that once housed around 900 students. From the wooden windows, you’ll gain a new appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into creating this architectural gem. After being closed for refurbishment since 2018, this must-see attraction in Marrakech is finally open again to visitors!

While you will spend hours in Marrakech side-stepping puddles and dodging thunderstorms, it will lead you to discover the Maison de la Photographie. And, oh my goodness, I am IBRAHIM and I will be so happy if you make it happen to visit this lovely place!
Within this small, unassuming building lies a treasure trove of street photography and portraiture that took our breath away, including stunning shots captured more than 150 years ago.
If you have even a passing interest in art or photography, or if you want a snapshot into Morocco’s rich traditions and people, this is a must-visit. It may even become one of your favorite experiences in Marrakech. You will spend hours here, and not just to avoid the rain in winter or the heat in summer, haha. Don’t forget to make time for a mint tea in the rooftop cafe, which offers arguably one of the best views in town!

A shopping trip in the local’s markets with our gifted wallets of cash and giant shopping bags for the ingredients, then back to a beautiful riad where, along with the three local lady helpers, we learnt to cook a traditional four course meal which included some of the best food we’ve had in our two visits to Morocco.
