ITINERARY
We'll pick you up from your Fes hotel or riad and take you to the Middle Atlas mountain towns of Ifrane and Azrou, where you may go on safari to see Barbary apes in their native environment. Passing through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass on the way to Midelt, and then following the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the Middle-Atlas plateau, before the landscape suddenly shifts to reveal hints of the desert as you draw near the city of Errachidia.
We'll stop for lunch and then continue on via Erfoud, Rissani, and Merzouga in the Ziz valley. We'll have some mint tea and then pack our belongings onto camels to ride out to a Berber camp in the heart of the Erg Chebbi Sad Dunes. As well as being the longest and widest sand dunes in North Africa (at 20 and 5 kilometers, respectively), they are also the tallest. This setting is both unique and varied.
The hotel to the camp is roughly an hour and a half on camel, so we can stay true to the nomadic Berber ethos the whole way. We erected three Berber tents there, plus a restaurant and kitchen, using the dunes' inherent infrastructure. Mattresses, blankets, and pillows are provided, and the tents have all the amenities you could want. We eat, then sit around the fire and listen to some Berber drums or other desert music as the sun sets.
After a good breakfast, our day of discovery will be up with a visit to a neighborhood populated by individuals of African descent who have dark complexion. Our hosts in this region are Malians.
After seeing how things work at Miffis Mines, we'll take a trip across the beautiful desert hidden behind the dunes and stop for a hot drink with some local Bedouins before driving back to the hotel.
Before venturing out into the mysterious Erg-Chebbi Sand Sea in this 4 DAYS TOUR FROM FES, your local guides will brief you on proper mounting and dismounting techniques, among other helpful safety tips. Be like the Berbers and spend the night in a tent.
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we'll hit the road for an off-road adventure across the scenic black desert, passing through berber oasis towns dotted with palm palms and mud-brick homes on our way to Alnif. a town famous for its fossil trade, where we'll rest and refuel before continuing on to the high Atlas Mountains, where we'll marvel at the contrasting natural beauty of the goerges of Todgha, formed by water seeping through cracks in the rocks. After seeing the gorges, we'll continue through the lovely highlands to Dades Valley, where we'll spend the night in a comfortable hotel with a breathtaking vantage point.
After breakfast at the hotel we’ll travel through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. Traveling through Dades Valley via the "path of a thousand Kasbahs" can provide you several picture ops. Next, we'll visit the rose valley and the settlement of Skoura. Keep going to the "Hollywood of Africa," Ouarzazat. Our lunch destination is the massive Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah in the heart of the Moroccan desert. After seeing this ancient marriage site recognized by UNESCO, we'll continue our trip by crossing the High Atlas Mountains through the breathtaking Tizi n' tichka pass (2260m). To take in the breathtaking scenery and check out the argan oil cooperative, we'll be taking a break. Later that afternoon, we'll make our way to the city of Marrakech.
